Pack 9
Pinewood Derby
RACE INFORMATION
Races will be conducted within 5 divisions: Tiger Cubs, Wolf, Bear,
Webelos I & Webelos II. Registration & race times will be per the
posted schedule. The overall Pack 9 champion will be determined
based on the winners of the Tiger Cubs, Wolf, Bear & Webelos
divisions. Awards will be given out for first, second & third place
finishes in each of the 5 divisions.
Race format is based on a “low point” scoring system as follows:
Points are
awarded for first, second, third & fourth place finishes in each
race.
1-point for first place through 4-points for fourth place.
Cars race
in their respective divisions until they have accumulated 15
(or more) points; This assures that every car will run in at least
four division races.
Individual
cars competing in a given race are chosen through a random selection
process & all lane assignments are random chosen by the computer.
Races
where the number of cars competing is less than 4 will have "filler"
cars added to occupy any open track positions; competing cars will
earn points as specified above.
The 4
remaining cars within a division will run in a series of races to
determine the division champion. These cars will run in 4 races,
each time in a different lane. Accumulated point totals from all
prior races will be set to zero. The car with the fewest number of
points after the 4 races is the first place winner. Second, third &
fourth place cars are determined by the next lowest point totals,
respectively. Ties for a given place will be determined by a sudden
death race.
First,
second & third place winners from the Tiger Cubs, Wolf, Bear,
Webelos I, Webelos II divisions will compete for the Pack 9
championship. Race format will be the same as that for division
championship.
Prizes
will also be awarded for Most Original, Best Design and Most
Creative
Once a car passes
inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members
can touch it.
If the car loses a
wheel, or is otherwise damaged, the racer shall have 5 minutes to
make a repair.
Each car must pass
inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be
allowed to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility
to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.
Good Luck,
but most importantly, have a good time!
The “Fine Print”
These rules will be strictly adhered to. All efforts have been made
to insure that the events are run as fairly as possible and that all
probable occurrences have been accounted for. The race committee,
however, reserves the right to make changes in the race format as
circumstances dictate.
